EPBC Act assessment

The Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme Project is undergoing assessment under the Commonwealth's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act).

The Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts has determined that the proposal is a 'controlled action' under the EPBC Act. The controlling  provision under the Act is 'listed threatened species and communities' (Sections 18 and 18A). DEWHA has advised that the project requires assessment based on preliminary documentation.

Public comments on the preliminary documentation were recieved until 27 August 2010. The comments recieved and the TIDB's response to these comments is available here: TIDB Response to Public Comments SWIS EPBC 2010-5327.pdf

The preliminary documentation is available from the links below. Alternatively, you can view the documentation, and the TIDB's response to comments recieved, in Tasmania at the Latrobe Council Office, 170 Gilbert St, Latrobe; at the Devonport City Library, 21 Oldaker St, Devonport; or at the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, 134 Macquarie St (5th floor), Hobart. The documentation also is available from the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, John Gordon Bldg, King Edward Terrace, Parks ACT. The documentation will be available for viewing at these locations from 6 September 2010 to 1 October 2010.
