Project Aim

Under the proposed design, 5,460ML will be delivered annually over a 150-day irrigation season to farmers in the Sassafras-Wesley Vale region. The scheme comprises a main trunk line (formerly the supply line to the TasPaper mill at Wesley Vale) and six supply lines:

  • Pardoe (11.2km);
  • Northdown (6.9km);
  • Thirlstane (19.5km);
  • Harford (20.3km); 
  • Sassafras (14.9km); and,
  • Alderson (1.5km).




Project Status

Sassafras-Wesley Vale has moved to the Planning and Approvals phase following in principle approval of the scheme's Business Case by the Tasmanian Government. The project schedule is for construction to commence in October 2010.

Next Stage

Obtaining Aboriginal Heritage permits and approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.


These are the final Statutory approvals required before construction commences.
