Project Aim

The agumentation aims to add significant value to the existing Winnaleah Irrigation Scheme by extending its capacity and its range. In addition to farming benefits, there may be scope for a private mini-hydro power station downstream from the Frome Dam.

The project was passed to the TIDB from Winnaleah Irrigation Scheme Ltd during 2009. Work since then has focussed on determining the most efficient method of water delivery from the Frome Dam and other additional sources, taking careful account of the flora, fauna and cultural values that exist and must be maintained.

Project Status

Flora and fauna, hydrological and socio-economic impact surveys have been completed while detailed design work continues.
The Board of the TIDB have approved the Preferred Option to augment the scheme. This was presented to the community at a meeting at the Winnaleah Town Hall in May this year. Public comment on this Preferred Option is sought by 11 June 2010.

Next Stage

The Business Case for the augmentation is due to the Board of the TIDB in July 2010 with the aim of commencing construction in December this year.
